Primary French Resources
Below are free primary French teaching resources for teachers in UK schools at KS1 and KS2 level to help you save time spent on lesson planning. Primary school French teachers may find these websites useful for developing their own lesson plans or for signposting their pupils to innovative online content.
Key Stage 1
The BBC Primary French pages have interactive Flash cartoons that enable pupils to watch and listen to French language scenarios. There are also non-Flash versions for those without the software installed. Topics include introductions, numbers and days of the work. This is suitable for Key Stages 1 and 2.
You can download free French Lesson Plans at the City of Stoke website for the National Languages Strategy. The topics covered include:
- The World
- Eating out
The downloads come in pdf format. There are also songs, stories and useful websites. Great for Key Stage 1 upwards.
A KS1 and 2 MFL Teaching Advice video can be found on the Teachers TV site. There are some useful tips on lesson planning for teachers of MFL (modern foreign languages).
Key Stage 2
The CCEA Primary Languages French pages have been developed to help primary school teachers to deliver language teaching. opics include House & Home, Animals and The Weather.
Nine interactive KS2 Whiteboard Resources are included on the Crickweb website. Topics covered include:
- Fruit and vegetables
BBC Family French Game includes simple games for adding fun to learning numbers and colours. Suitable for childern who can count to 5.
